Golf Communities
Sarasota has over 50 golf courses, and many of them are within communities having homes and condominiums with vistas of the courses. These are my favorite Golfing Communities:
University Park
Centrally located in Sarasota on University Parkway, just west of Rt. 75, this is a lovely community with complete grounds maintenance established in the early 1990's, with new homes still being constructed. The Country Club includes a 27-hole course designed by world renowned golf course architect, Ron Garl. Home prices range from the low $300's to well over $1 Million. Lots sizes average about a quarter acre with a few available over a half acre.
The Oaks Club
The Oaks Club is located in Osprey, just south of Sarasota, but still close to all that Sarasota has to offer. With 54 holes of scenic views and elevation changes, this is a terrific course. The 18 hole Eagle course was completely renovated in 2007 by renowned architect Arthur Hills. And the 18 hole Heron course is slated for renovation under the guidance of Pete Dye, who is probably the finest architect in the world today. This club takes it's golf seriously, being the first in the U.S. to feature paspalum from tee to green. The median price of homes in this community is about $900,000.
Founders Golf Club
This 18 hold Robert Trent Jones, Jr. signature course is found in an exclusive gated community convenient to all that Sarasota has to offer. Close to downtown Sarasota, the beaches, and St. Armand's Circle, but far enough away to provide a quiet retreat. This club provides Sarasota's only traditional caddie program and indoor training facility. Built beginning in 2006, this course and community will not dissapoint. Home prices start in the $700's and top out just under $3 Million, with the median price range around $1,400,000. Most homes are sited on 1/2 acre lots, with the largest lots being just less than an acre.
Lakewood Ranch - The Country Club
With 54 holes, this is the largest Country Club in the area. 36 holes were designed by the Palmer Course Design Company and 18 holes, by Rick Robbins. Developed beginning in the late 1990's, new homes are still being constructed in this community. Homeprices range from the low $300's to well over $1 Million. The average home site is about a quarter of an acre, with the largest lots topping out at about three-quarters of an acre.
Laurel Oak Country Club
Laurel Oak Country Club contains two complete 18-hole courses originally designed by Gary Player, and more recently redesigned by Rees Jones. The community includes about 400 homes on over 800 peaceful acres close to Siesta Key beaches and not far from downtown Sarasota. Built from the early 1990's into the early 2000's, home prices range from about $500K to just under $2 Million.
Palm Aire Country Club
Centrally located in Sarasota just north of University Parkway and west of Rt. 75, this is an older community with terrific golf values. The 4 golf courses have a total of 63 holes and 2 driving ranges, 2 golf academies, 2 pro shops and much more. Homes in this community were built between the early 1970's and the late 1990's, although there are a few built a bit later. There is a wide range of housing, including condominiums, villas, and single family homes, with most homes priced under $400,000 and a good selection priced quite a bit lower.
The Meadows Country Club
The Meadows Country Club offers 54 holes of golf and an active social club. There are 2 championship courses as well as a short course by famed Arthur Hill designed to test every aspect of your game. Most of these homes were built in the 1980's although a few are older and several are newer. Conveniently located close to downtowm, there is a wide range of home styles, including single family homes, condominiums, and villas. Median home price is around $300K.
